Keyword Analysis

Ok, so you have decided that you want to use the internet as a way in which to attract more customers. You have hired a top flight web design company to design a fancy "Flash" website for you. You have things flashing here and there...it's almost like a circus.

You have some of the coolest technology working on your site...it is an absolute work of art...nothing short of amazing!

Now, what was the purpose of this site? Was it to attract business, or is it merely an extension of your business card? What I mean by "extension" of your business card is this...someone comes to your business...sees one of your ads, or receives a call from you...they obtain the website address and they subsequently visit your site. This is an "extension" of your business card. More specifically meaning that they would never have found your site if you didn't somehow give it to them.

Now, you look at your marketing director...or yourself if you are in charge of driving traffic to your company and ask yourself if you are merely building a website to be any extension of your business card, or if you indeed want to use your website to be a marketing tool and for it to stand on its own...drawing its own fair share of traffic.

I hope you have said that you want your website to stand on its own...if so...we will get along just fine!

First, might I make one small suggestion? Throw the Flash website that you just had build for 10k out the window...as it will never bring you 1 person through the search engines. "WHAT THE HECK DID YOU JUST SAY?" Well, I just told you to throw 10k down the toilet...you know why? Search Engine spiders can not read flash code...and if anyone who built the site for you told you that search engines do read flash code...I would suggest you ask them to optimize your site...to the point where you show up on the first page of a search result. Now, after 1 year (I am throwing in a little bit of Sarcasm now), and you are still not even in the top 500 sites for a particular search term, I recommend that you revert back to my original suggestion and throw the website out the window.

Ok, now that we have that cleared up, let's build a site that gets results. It all begins with KEYWORDS and keyword phrases. Do you realize that you could build a website, using keywords and keyword phrases that will drive thousands of prospects to your doors? Businesses are doing it every day.

Go to http://inventory.overture.com and once you have the website up...type a word into the search term box. Pick a word.any word. You will have a list returned of exactly how many people searched for that "exact" term last month. You may be wondering how this information may be helpful for you...and that is the best question you could ask yourself.

It is not only important to you...it is paramount. It all begins with keywords.
